5 minutes with… Ramona’s Kitchen

With a beautiful new rebrand and a range of delicious houmous, we caught up with Ramona Hazan, Managing Director to find out more about Ramona’s Kitchen & Me Too! Foods.
 
Tell us a brief history of the company
Ramona’s Kitchen produces Mediterranean and naturally vegetarian foods, specialising in houmous, dips and falafel. It was founded 15 years ago, when I came to the UK, I just couldn’t fathom why this kind of food didn’t taste how I remembered. After wondering for a long time whether I could, or should, create my own range, eventually I went for it – and Ramona’s was born. I sourced the finest ingredients from the local markets and suppliers and using a blender in my little kitchen I would make all my own products at night (I had a day job!). The next day I would hand deliver them to local restaurants and delis in my trusted Peugeot 206. 

 
Why is your Houmous special? 
Coming from a Mediterranean background means we are producing products that are not only are delicious, but authentic and traditional. Even as we’ve grown, my food values have stayed the same. To make super tasty, naturally vegetarian food for the whole family to share, based on my own Mediterranean family recipes – using only the finest ingredients, And I hope you’ll be able to taste the most important ingredient of all…Love. 

 What tips would you give for using your product?   
Delicious mezze boards and sharing platters are so easy to create using our products; our houmous is ready to eat and there’s something for everyone, our products are: 

  • Gluten Free 
  • Vegan Approved 
  • Certified Kosher

What does a ‘normal’ day look like for you? 
For me my day starts at 7 where I will respond to emails & meetings, which focus on the strategy of the business and the exciting projects we’re undertaking as a team collectively, to ensure we’re all going in the right direction with focus.  

I’m also very involved in new product development, where I create new recipes and generate business ideas – which is a really fun aspect of my job because we get to be so creative! 

What is your favourite product in your range? 
Our Original Houmous is always a crowd pleaser but our Jalapeno Houmous must be my favourite- it’s a mouthful of happiness with a little kick! It can be eaten with hundreds of dishes includes mezze’s and sharing platters, but I like to keep it simple spread in a hot pitta with fresh falafel and roasted red peppers! 

What food/drink trends do you think we are going to see over the next 12 months? 
 I think in the next 12 months we will see a big shift in the types of food offered for delivery, including healthy and vegan food. The past few years have shown how big the demand for plant based food really is; and now more than ever I think people are seeing the benefits that kind of diet can bring. Now that more of us are staying in, it’s a great opportunity to combine convenience and health benefits. 

I also expect to see a rise in innovative, plant-based product launches and initiatives, which emphasises that you don’t have to have meat with EVERY meal for it to be fulfilling and delicious! I think that our products really tap into this trend; our food is not just for vegans; it’s for the whole family. Children, teenagers, adults, and grandparents alike can enjoy our food at any time of day. 

What’s the latest news from Ramona’s Kitchen? 
We have recently launched our fabulous new brand Ramona’s, which uses the same delicious & authentic recipes but has a new, bold look!
