SUSTAINABILITY AT CURD & CURE

At Curd & Cure we recognise the impact that our business has on our shared environment.
We aim to consider people and the planet in our decision-making and continue to embed sustainability into our business model. With the increasing size of our operations, it is essential that we are constantly looking for ways to improve our processes to become more efficient.

DELIVERIES

We provide a wholesale consolidation service to increase the efficiency of supply chain management for independent suppliers, retailers and foodservice.

Using route optimisation software to plan our deliveries, we maximise our efficiency and keep food delivery miles to a minimum. We also integrate collections of products from suppliers within our delivery rounds, to maximise the use of our vans.

WAREHOUSE

Our shutter door is fitted with an automatic cover which is operated by sensors.

This helps use to maintain the correct temperatures throughout the warehouse and minimise any temperature loss.

Our forklifts are all electric. Our unused wooden and plastic pallets are collected for re-use elsewhere.

WASTE

We have removed all our personal office bins which has encouraged everyone to split their waste and recycle more. As a result, we have reduced our general waste production by 55%.

We now recycle up to 90% of our waste and all our cardboard.

Mixed recycling and paper waste from the office, production unit and warehouse are all recycled, including pallet wrap from goods-in.

We are pleased to send zero waste to landfill, as our general waste is collected and sent to incineration for ‘Waste to Energy’ and returns energy back into the grid.

FOOD WASTE

As a food wholesaler, we know that much responsibility lies with us to ensure that our impact on the environment is as minimal as possible. We have implemented our own food waste hierarchy, which ensures that we divert as much edible food as possible at different stages before it ends up in our food bin for anaerobic digestion.

THE RESCUE RANGE
Check out our post on The Rescue Range, a product that we developed to actively tackle food waste within the business.

TOO GOOD TO GO
We have partnered with Too Good To Go, an app which connects us directly to the consumer. Our warehouse team make up magic bags with a lucky dip of surplus stock which are then sold through the app at a third of the price and collected by customers.
We are proud to recently have become a Too Good To Go ‘Store Champion!’

COMMUNITY

As a business we believe that we can learn from one another to build better, stronger businesses and initiatives.
That is why we choose to champion local and are committed to adding value to our community.

We work with Maidstone Council and the charity Time for The Homeless who both distribute our surplus stock to homeless people living on the streets, people in temporary accommodation and voluntary soup kitchens across Medway and Maidstone.

One of the latest initiatives we have supported is Kent’s Plan Bee, which is an action plan put together to consider pollinators and their conservation across the county.

We are working with LoCase Kent to complete their Steps Towards Environmental Management workshops and gain our certificate to demonstrate our ongoing commitments to operating in a more environmentally friendly way.
